DAY 5
Pallavi Singhi's collection reminded us of Sabyasachi's aesthetic. Her use of mixed fabrics to create unique textures produced amazing results. Loved the sari and the gingham jacket.
Soltee By Sulakshna was all about soft ethereal pieces. Details like layering, appliqués and asymmetrical hemlines were the key elements she focussed on.
JJ Vallaya's grand finale was truly spectacular. The grandeur of the show aside, his collection had its characteristic royal signature. The show opened with muted tones of ivory and black and then treaded on to a more colorful and vibrant territory. Inspired by the Turkish culture, the collection was truly mesmerizing.

DAY 4
Rahul Mishra was one of the few designers who played with a sombre color palette. Looking to create a sporty handloom effect, he worked with contrasting fabrics of wool and organza silk. And we think, the result was more than stunning. Absolutely loved his jackets.
MonaPali's collection name Phirkee was vibrant and vivacious. The clever use of crochet, appliqué and latticework created visual interest and added another dimension to the collection. But what caught our eye were the unique colorful boot-cum-socks. Practical or not, they definitely created a buzz.
Jenjum Gadi's 'Tribal collection' was a riot of colors, full of iridescent pailettes and geometric patterns. The vibrant shift dresses will be so happy in our closets.
Sonam Dubal used black as his canvas with splashes of print and color. Loved his black & white palette especially the jackets.
My big fat Indian wedding was the theme at RockyS show. The runway was choc-a-bloc with over the top ornate pieces. Heavily embroidered lehangas, blinged up sarees and traditional sherwani's, it was all very festive.

DAY 3
Anand Bhushan's Junkyard collection looked anything but. The collection had a strong industrial essence which was masterfully translated into sartorial art. Pleated dresses, cigarette pants and evening gowns all embossed with metal patches, boasted of his skillful execution and sharp eye for detail.
Pankaj & Nidhi: Hands down our favorite collection so far. The beautiful workmanship, the shapes, the colors, everything about the show left us completely enamored. The duo played with cross stitch embroidery and cut work appliqués inspired by Polish folk art of wycinanki on felt fabric to create structured tops, jacket and pants.
Rimzim Dadu's 'My Village' collection consisted of edgy, futuristic designs. What caught our attention was her play on textures, the use of gold foil and metal fringe to create structured dresses.
Pallavi Jaipur's collection reminded us of a village carnival. Bright colors, patch work and bold embellishments all contributed to a collection that was cheerful, fresh and very festive. The jewelry especially the head gear, the pom pom accents and the shoes, all echoed that traditional Rajasthani flavor.
Manish Malhotra stayed true to his aesthetic and offered exquisite hand embroidered pieces that evoked a royal aura. Intricate Kashimiri thread work was the highlight and the inspiration of his collection.

DAY 2
Nachiket Barve's collection reflected the Indian heritage with its elaborate cutwork and rich embroidery juxtaposed against a fresh modern silhouette. His pieces ranging from tie & dye gowns to coats to silk sarees celebrated the many different facets of a woman. The green-blue tie & dye saree and the lime green gown absolutely stole our hearts.
Tarun Tahiliani's show was what everyone expected and much more. Grand, glamorous and an absolute fashion paradise. the collection echoed of its Turkish roots with its elaborate gowns to draped tunics in jewel tones of wine, rose and blue along with the use of body chains and ornate belts. Our favorite piece has to be the blue-grey anarkali style suit cum ghagra.
Raakesh Agarvwal: Influenced by Lady Gaga's bold and creative sartorial choices, designer Raakesh Agarvwal showcased a collection that was both fierce and stunning. His clean lines with sharp tailoring and architectural details had us yearning for more. Although all the pieces were fantastic, we are absolutely lusting after the blue & gold jacket.
Anaikka by Kanika Saluja was a gilded collection full of studded pieces. Extensive use of swarovski embellishments and impeccable tailoring were the highlights of her show. Jackets with exaggerated collars were our personal favorites.
Nupur Kanoi's collection Troy was a harmonious melange of natural fabrics & unique textures. She used techniques like quilting & cording on structured silhouettes to create bold jackets and exaggerated shirts. The color palette was rather sombre ranging from dark greens to black.

This week marked the beginning of the Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week. Overflowing with glitz, glamour and some serious creativity, it was one action packed event. With curtains down on day 3 of the autumn winter 2012 season, we bring you the first installment of our favorite collections:
DAY 1
Shantanu & Nikhil's drape collection was elegant and luxurious with a focus on sensual evening wear. It was full of form fitted dresses and evening gowns with a color palette ranging from metallics to jewel tones of blue, greens and red. The surprising element were the soft flowy dresses in pristine white. We are drooling over the white gown.
Preeti Chandra's Matador Chic collection caught our fancy with its sharp emebllished jackets and its gilded embroidery on velvet. Although, few of the cheery chiffon gowns in the middle felt a bit abrupt. But all in all, it was a great collection with its roots in the courts of Spain. The velvet peplum jacket might be our favorite piece amongst all.
Vineet Bahl took inspiration from his travels and aptly named it 'Caravan'. The use of Afgani & Sardinian embroidery on a variety of textures created perfect pieces for the Indian winter. We particularly loved the splashes of neon on his cute and definitely wearable separates.
Anju Modi: Inspired by the regions of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Kutch, Anju Modi's collection 'Nomadic Wanderlust' was a contemporary take on traditional silhouettes and earthy fabrics. Designed for the independent modern woman, she focussed on strong separates which can be mixed and matched with your existing wardrobe. The styling of the show with exaggerated cheek color and heeled oxfords were a perfect compliment to the wonderful ensembles.
Anupamaa Dayal's collection replete with its folk undercurrents took us to the streets of Gujarat. The use of bold colors combined with native prints was an absolute delight for the eyes. The striped sari and the bright ghagra's would make a perfect addition to our wardrobe. Just wish she had used the stringed jootis (absolutely loved them) throughout the show instead of those running shoes - a complete eye sore but besides that, the whole collection put as in a happy mood.

Plagued with a boring and unsexy image, turtlenecks have never been at the forefront of fashion. But this season, we have seen a new wave of turtleneck obsession both on and off the runway. Thanks to designers like Poebe Philo, Raf Simmons and Altuzarra, the once-dorky staple is making a very stylish comeback. A cool mix of mod and preppy, we are personally pretty ecstatic about the reinvention of the t-neck.
Whether you pick a chunky knit or a slim fitted version, there are multiple ways to wear the turtleneck. Layer them over a blouse, under a jacket or a dress or wear simply on its own with your favorite denims. With the mercury dipping below freezing in some parts of the world, it might be your best bet to stay warm and chic. This week we look up to some of the fashion's elite on their new spin of this winter staple:
The best part about turtlenecks is that you can use this high collared piece to play around with your your warm weather clothes. Layer it under a summery top or under a short floral dress. Take your cue from the always stylish Hanneli and team a thin turtleneck with a structured top and a pair of slim pants for look that's sleek and sophisticated.
Slip a cozy turtle (Zara Rs. 1750) neck under a coat for a relaxed yet polished vibe. Its the perfect way to add extra warmth without compromising on style. Works great for a casual date or a weekend brunch with friends.
We love this for a casual daytime look. An all black palette (Mango Rs. 990) keeps things simple and classic and the fur vests adds a touch of whimsy to the whole ensemble. You can swap your skinny denims with wide leg ones for a 70's hippie vibe.
Put your sweater (Mango Rs. 1750) in the spotlight by teaming it with a long flowy maxi skirt á la Margherita Missoni. Accessorizing with a statement necklace not only adds visual interest but will also draw more attention to the chic neckline.
For a smart layered look that's easy to pull off, mix your chunky t-neck(Zara Rs. 1690) with a candy colored mini skirt. Top if off with a black coat and some cool boots.
Shake up things a bit with a bold pop of color. Try a contrasting t-neck (Zara Rs. 990) with a pair of bright wide leg pants. Add some high heeled loafers for a fabulously chic look. To make the look work appropriate, keep the pieces in the same color family and you will instantly be ready to beat the monday blues.

Life might not always be black and white, but this season fashion is. There is perhaps no more iconic combination than black and white. Sophisticated and chic, black and white always makes a statement.
A black and white pairing is about as simple as its gets that never fails to impress. A black and white look can go from fierce to feminine depending on how you style it. The key to pulling off this trend is in the details. When the primary colors are black and white, its a great idea to play around with textures and pattern. Mix softer fabrics like chiffon with sharper tailoring. We love the idea of mixing a bold graphic print skirt with a demure lace top or a white silk top with black floral pants. A clean palette also provides a lot of room to have fun with accessories. Unexpected pops of color like a bold lip or fancy heels give the refined black-and-white combo a fun twist.
Whether you are remixing your existing items or shopping for new, we bring you a selection of graphic pieces and striking separates that will make for ideal wardrobe staples:
Mango Bicolor dress (Rs. 2990): This relaxed fit white dress with contrasting side panels from Mango is a sporty chic take on the classic black and white combo. Partner it with a pair of slinky red heels and an oversized clutch on a warm sunny day.
Mango Bow T-shirt (Rs. 2350): This lace embellished T-shirt from Mango is dainty, feminine and easy to wear. It's perfect piece to take your go-to black pants to the next level of polished at the office or to add a femme twist to your jeans on the weekend.
Forever 21 Pleated stripes Skirt: Black and white combo in a striped version is about as versatile as it gets. This pleated skirt will look fabulous with a pair of black tights and ankle boots in the winters and come spring you can rock it sans tights with a pair of open toe heels.
Forever 21 Sweater Top: This geometric pattern knitted sweater from Forever 21 is a great layering piece and will keep you cozy and stylish in this January chill. Wear it under a black blazer and skinny jeans for a pulled together day time look and team it with a pair of black body con skirt for a sassy night out look.
Vero Moda Top: Simple and Chic, this contrasting Peter Pan collar top will instantly add polish to your work wear and will make for a cool pairing with your skinny jeans and black pumps.
Mango Bow Dress (Rs. 3690): Black and white doesn't always have to be severe. Mango brings you a sweet and feminine iteration of the trend with its bow dress. Partner it with kitten heels and and tiny messenger bag during the day and for the night you can choose to toughen up the dress a bit with chunky heels and a studded bag.
Zara Blazer (Rs.4790): This season, the masculine trend is having a major moment and we agree that there is nothing sexier than a boy-meets-girl look. Zara brings you this streamlined white blazer with a cool contrasting slim lapel that will add structure to almost any ensemble. One way to style the blazer is to team it up with your skinniest black jeans for a posh day to night look. You can also throw the blazer over a fitted short skirt and a crisp white blouse. Add subtle accents like a pop of bright lipstick or towering heels to femme up the otherwise masculine look.
Zara Dress (Rs. 4790): This graphic printed sequin dress is a chic alternative to incorporate the black and white trend without the hassle of looking for separates. Wear it with sleek pulled back hair and pointy pumps for a rocking evening ensemble.

When the temperatures turn freezing, nothing sounds more appealing than a jeans and sweater combo, but its time to rethink your get-dressed-for-cold philosophy and get out of your style rut. Enter the 'Sweater dress' an equally cozy but chic alternative to your same old sweater pants routine. True to its name, the sweater dress has the warmth and texture of your comfiest cardigan and the ease of your favorite summer dress. It's your one step to looking polished while staying warm and comfortable in winters.
The sweater dress has long been a winter staple and is surprising versatile with endless options to dress it up or down depending on the occasion and the chill factor. Throw it over leggings and boots or jazz it up with a pair of patterned tights and some platform heels. Whatever be your styling preference, there are myriad of options for you to choose from and the best part is that a bunch of them are on sale right now. So, hurry before they fly off the shelves:
Forever 21 Angelina Sweater dress: The rich hue of this dress along with its arm details and the waist defining silhouette makes this an ultra flattering day to night dress. Switching up the belt with a leather or suede one will not only enhance your waist but will also add some visual interest. Black would be an obvious choice for hosiery but we suggest opting for a pair of patterned tights to elevate the whole ensemble.
Mango Dress (Rs. 1490): Keep things simple and easy in this thin, navy knit dress. Its winter wardrobe version of the summer sheath dress. Take it to office with a pair of black tights and kitten heels and cozy it up with a chunky snood and some slouchy boots on your day off.
Zara Twisted tube dress (Rs. 2690): Simple and gorgeous on its own or an excellent layering piece, this Zara dress is equally appropriate for walking around town as it is for a night out on the town. During the day, strut this dress with a pair of wedge booties and a big oversized clutch. For the evenings when it gets extra chilly, top it off with a black blazer and shiny black pumps.
Forever 21 Multi knit sweater dress: Throw over a long camel coat over this multi knit fitted dress for a pared-down elegant outfit that works perfectly for long hours of shopping on weekends. Wear flats while running around the mall and switch them up for platform lace-ups for the evening to give the ensemble some edge.
French Connection Tweed Dress (Rs. 3699): This dress seems as cozy and comfy as a sweatshirt, but the textured neckline and short sleeves give it enough fanciness for you to pull it off in just about any scenario. Partner it with a pair of flat boots for a coffee run around the block or prep it up with knee high socks and a pair of towering Mary Janes.
Mango Cable knit dress (Rs. 2690): For days when its nippy outside and you are looking for a little coverage, this cable knit dress is just perfect to bundle up in. Team it up with some thick tights and knee high boots to beat the elements in January and show of your gams with a pair of sleek oxfords as spring approaches.
Happy New Year! Ladies. I’m Anushka
from Bombay Bubble and as dramatic as it might sound, I’ve always considered shopping my raison d’être. And can you blame me? With all the options Bombay presents me on a daily basis, it’s hard not to go a little crazy!
Mumbai style vibe just like the city itself is cool & casual. We might refer to the latest trends but in no way do they dictate our sartorial sensibilities. You will find a fun and interesting mix of young crowd on the streets each with their own individual aesthetic. With an inspiring mix of world-class design stores and edgy fashion boutiques, our city is a shopper's paradise. If you’re as much of a shopaholic as I am, here’s a guide to all my secret stores across the city to help get you on your way.
STREET SHOPPING
Probably my favourite form of shopping yet, nothing compares to the satisfaction of winning a bargain war! Be warned, street shopping works best for fashionistas with patience, debating skills and a trained eye. Dive headfirst into the crowd here:
Colaba: The best place for accessories in the city! Expect to find vintage-look jewelry, chunky tribal necklaces, and cocktail rings below Rs. 300. Affordable satchels and other bags range up to Rs. 600. Be sure to visit ‘Cotton Colour’ for funky one-offs and ‘Right Place’ for maxi dresses and boho separates.
Hill Road: My favourite of all, Hill Road is a cheap fashion paradise. Walk the streets to find cute tops, skirts and leggings. Visit on a Sunday evening to find roadside thrift stores or treat yourself to a pair of shoes at ‘Belly’ or ‘Pink Paisley’. The lane opposite reliance Trends is fantastic for accessories while the one opposite Globus is great for cotton dresses, shirts and jumpsuits.
Linking Road: Linking road is a shoe addict’s Promised Land! Walk its length to find a multitude of reasonable roadside shoe shops selling sandals, ballet flats, mojris and kolhapuri chappals. Keep walking to see little shoe boutiques that sell all the latest styles, but at medium-high prices.
Fashion Street: Though one of the city’s most iconic shopping destinations, most of the stalls here don’t have the best stuff. However, the few that do more than make up for it. Be sure to visit stall numbers 66, 77, 96 and 182. My personal favourites, expect to find pieces from Topshop, H&M and Asos at a fraction of the price.
Lokhandwala Market: Another great place for shoes. Walk the length of this long street to find a harmonious mix of boutiques, high street stores and street stalls.
Dharavi: Mumbai’s leather district caters to those of you who like ‘real’ bags, belts, jackets and accessories. The best part? They’ll custom make them as per your specifications!
Mahim Market: This one’s a toughie! Only on Wednesday mornings till 12pm, expect to battle it out with elderly church-goers to find some crazy pieces! I found a gorgeous preppy jacket and a sequined crop top here quite by chance!
BOUTIQUES
Scattered in little by lanes across town and the suburbs, here’s your cheat sheet of the run-of-the-mill ‘Bangkok’ stores in Bombay. They all have bright clothes, shoes and accessories upto about Rs. 4000/- but browse through them with some time in hand to find some really unique pieces.
Besos, Soap Opera, Izzo, God Made Me Funky, Style Mantra, Preciosa, Karma Kola, Reiss/Ritzy, White Peacock, Outfits, Butter, Guapa Chica, Rumours.
HIGH END STORES
Chicer than your average and pricier to boot, these stores are filled with beautiful, high quality designer pieces that’ll make you change the way you look at fashion. Be sure to add these to your ‘must visit’ list for a truly exceptional experience: Bungalow 8, Stadium, Bombay Electric, Creo, Trunk.
MALLS Like every other big city, Mumbai loves a mall! The ones worth visiting through the city are Phoenix Mills-Palladium, Inorbit Mall, Atria The Millennium Mall and Oberoi Mall Infinity 2.
If you want to be fashionable and trendy but still want to look different here are a few one of-a-kind stores that are sure to catch your fancy:
Attic: The King of Kitsch stores, here’s where you’ll find quirky clothes, accessories and lifestyle accessories that make a statement and don’t break the bank!
Sobo: Taking eclectic to a whole other level, Sobo is your one stop shop for funky clothes, bags, shoes and accessories!
The Source: A clothes library of sorts, this is the coolest new style store on the block that lets you not only try and buy, but also borrow clothes and accessories! How cool is that?
Eternia: If OTT is your thing, this is the place for you. Sure, a lot of their stuff is a little ‘loud’ (for lack of a better word) but if sequins are your thing and you’re up for some hunting, it’s worth taking a risk on.
Aquamarine: One of my favourite stores of all time, expect to find silver/ semi-precious jewelry to suit every taste and style – from mild to wild!
Curio Cottage: Another similar store, go here for statement pieces made of metal, resin and semi-precious stones. Each piece is so special, you’ll want to keep it forever.
I hope you guys manage to score some major stash for your wardrobes! Don’t forget, the January sales will be starting soon so you might want to postpone your shopping till then! I hope you have a fabulous, fashionable New Year!

The stylish duo Jasleen & Sonu behind the blog Fashion Bombay talk about their love of clothes, blogging & Bombay
Tell us a little bit about yourself, where you live and how you first got interested in fashion.
We are both from Bombay and love it here. We always enjoyed dressing up, mixing different styles, recycling and innovating. I guess we transformed our passion into our job.
When & Why did you initially decide to start a blog?
We both met at our previous work place and ever since then it's been like love at first sight. From our clothes to shoes, makeup to food and even our silly humour; we are like two peas in a pod.
We started our blog to further our love and passion for fashion. We are like the girl-next-door who loves to recycle and create interesting blends of fabrics and silhouettes. With our professional knowledge as stylists, we try and guide women with similar interests. Thankfully, people have appreciated our efforts and here we are answering these questions for StylePile :)
What do you love about living in Bombay?
The crowd, the cacophony, the colour of it, we love it all. We are fascinated with the heritage structures, the crowded streets in Colaba, the local markets and the quaint cafes.
Tell us about your favorite shops or designers in Bombay?
Our local haunts are Colaba Causway, Fashion Street and Dharavi. They have one-of-a-kind pieces and are so affordable. Other than that, the usual high-street brands like Zara, Mango and Vero Moda. Although above our budgets, we adore the works of designers like Rahul Mishra, Shrivan & Narresh, Rohan Arora, Masaba and Sabyasachi to name a few.
What brands are you waiting for to launch in India?
H&M, American Apparel, ELF and Topshop to name a few.
What is the best part about blogging?
We get to meet so many new people. We love interacting with people with similar interests and the response we get from our readers is just overwhelming. Of course, getting recognized by brands and designers is an added bonus.
How has your style evolved since you started documenting it on the blog?
We would like to think it’s matured and evolved with time. Our motto was to incorporate everyday dressing of any shape or size without compromising on comfort. We wear flats, layer with accessories and enjoying getting dressed up for a day at work. Our essence remains, but we still learn something new everyday.
What do you do when you're not blogging?
When we aren’t blogging we are either Tweeting, Facebook-ing or thinking of our next blog post. Someone rightfully said, ‘A blogger has no weekends.’ I guess, we are like that too.
What are your fashion rules to live by?
On most days we try not to confine ourselves to the so-called ‘fashion rules.’ But the basics like don’t wear ripped jeans to a formal occasion or don’t buy if it doesn’t fit you right still hold true. But mostly, we follow the rule of enjoying what you wear.
PS: Don’t EVER buy fakes!
What is your current favorite trend from this season?
We’re seriously digging the long capes and chunky knits. Too bad Bombay is still 32 degrees hot!
Tell us about one quirk that you might have - fashion or otherwise.
Sonu is a clean freak. I’m constantly organising my wardrobe; I’ve tried it all - colour coordination, arranging the shirts, skirts, pants together. I can’t handle a messy cupboard. Jasleen often bribes me to sort her wardrobe straight.
What is your most treasured possession?
Sonu: My mom’s jewellery. They are beautiful traditional Rajasthani pieces. Extremely rare to find now. Other than that, I can’t live without my blazers.
Jasleen: I think my Indian clothes, I feel very elegant and royal in them.
What are you essential fashion reads?
We religiously browse through many blogs on a daily basis. Other than that we like Refinery 29, WhoWhatWear, Style.com
and of course StylePile.
How has the fashion scene changed in India in the past couple of years and how much do you think bloggers have benefited or contributed to this change?
The retail and luxury industry in India has grown tremendously in direct connection with the fashion industry. More and more people are ready to break the barrier and are experimenting with fashion. The blogging industry has given a regular girl i.e non-models an oppourtunity to showcase their unique style. The new age webzines and sites connect with the masses directly.
Come December and suddenly the morning air turns crisp, nights get super chilly and you know it's time to layer up in some snazzy sweaters. Nothing prepares you for the dipping temperatures like a warm 'n toasty sweater, so this season take the preppy route and opt for a cozy crew neck version.
Crew neck sweaters may not seem like a novel fashion idea, but they are not only warm but super versatile as well. They go with everything in your closet from jeans, maxi skirts to cropped pants and give your look that extra sophisticated polish. Take a peek at the styles that we are loving and find a few that you can wear all winter to keep the cold at bay.
Zara Combined Sweater (Rs. 3690): Classic and unadorned, this Zara sweater has all the makings of a wardrobe staple. With its easy-to-wear cut in neutral hues that are flattering on every skin tone, this sweater looks just as chic with denim as it does with a slim skirt.

This timeless striped pullover is just roomy enough to layer over a blouse plus the cheery hues will put you in a good mood even in the most bone chilling temperatures. Wear it with sweats or a curve hugging pencil skirt depending on your agenda of the day.
Mango White Sweater (Rs. 3190): Cable knit pattern in a pristine white shade, this Mango sweater is infinite in its styling possibilities. With its subtle pattern, the sweater is not only cozy but adds dimension to almost any outfit. For a casual take, pair it with trouser shorts, leggings and booties or layer it over a floral dress for a chic contrast.
Zara Open Knit Sweater(Rs.2290): Delightfully delicate knit, this Zara sweater is sure to appeal to your aesthetic sense. When layered over a camisole, this dainty open knit shows just the right amount of skin. An easy choice for quick refinement atop a skirt or pants. Whenever I hear someone say "Pencil Skirt" the first thing that comes to mind is a boring black version fit for a 9 to 5 routine. Although pencil skirts are timeless and classy and have long been a wardrobe staple, sometimes they can feel a little too secretary like. But this season, with a strong dominance for lady like flair on the runways, designers went all out to bring back this 60's hit.
The lean silhouette of this skirt creates the illusion of mile-long legs and who doesn't want that? The hems may be longer, but the figure hugging silhouette lends a very sensual yet sophisticated effect. If you’re young enough to have never gone below the knee, you’re definitely in for some surprise and fun. The only styling rule to follow here is to strike a balance with a more flowy blouse.
From sequins to leather, there are tons of sexy figure hugging skirts in the stores now. This week take a look at our cheap chic picks plus some styling tips for a freshest take on this trusted wardrobe staple:
Zara Combined Skirt (Rs. 1990): A pencil skirt with a kick! This skirt from Zara makes for an interesting alternative to a basic black one. The slight metallic sheen of the textured panel makes it festive but thanks to its modest length, it still feels conservative enough. Channel classic cool girl elegance with a boat neck full sleeve tee (preferably adorned with a vintage brooch) and a pair of chunky ankle strap platforms to highlight the legs. For a more relaxed version, top it with a graphic tee, ankle booties and an animal print cardigan.
Forever 21 Striped Skirt: Looking for a wear-with-everything skirt that's also perfect for the office? Try this ultra-slimming and not to mention super-comfy skirt from Forever 21. Team it with a slouchy v neck tee, a black blazer and pumps on a weekday. For a more dressed down look, switch the pumps with a pair of patterned ballet flats and layer a statement necklace to add a bit of drama.
Forever 21 Leopard Skirt: The pencil skirt is clearly this season's power piece and the animal print provides that extra bite. We love the idea of juxtaposing the fitted skirt with an oversized chunky knit ( try one in the season's hottest hue - burgundy) and some ankle boots. For a more uptown look, team the skirt with a sheer black bow blouse and sky high pumps.
Vero Moda Skirt: This camel faux leather skirt from Vero Moda is one of the most versatile knee length skirts that makes for a luxe day-to-evening option. Wear it with a fitted tank, black blazer and tights to get noticed in the boardroom. The cute bow detail on the back makes it fun and flirty and an ideal alternative for weekend dressing.

Showcasing a heavy sprinkling of sequins in a scalloped pattern, this number walks the fine line between naughty and nice. Team it up with black accents for a more sophisticated but sexy approach. Craving an even bolder look? The regal blue hue will standout brilliantly against a contrasting top, try one in hot pink or red. Plaid is to winter what florals are to spring. You might associate plaid with bag pipe players and dull school uniforms but the scottish staple has come a long way with designers kicking the traditional pattern up a notch this season. From tailored tartan silhouettes to sporty styles, the iconic plaid got some serious play on the fall runways. The checkered pattern is a season-less classic that adds a grungy edge to the prettier pieces in your wardrobe. And the plaids we are talking about are tailored for attitude and not for the woods.
Since there is nothing subtle about this pattern, just a dash of plaid is a great way to liven up your favorite fall neutrals but if you are in the mood for a style challenge then mix yours with another print to make a bold statement. The style secret to wearing plaid is to match the hues - pick out the lightest shade in the pattern scheme and play it up in your separates. With cooler days now upon us, its time to bring out the cold weather gear. With all the layering required for winter dressing, the trick to distinctly cool style lies in accessories. This season saw the accessories trend take a nostalgic turn with the return of some of our old favorites like the choker and some not so pretty reminders of our teenage blunders like the fanny pack. But the trend that particulary caught our attention was the strong emphasis on fancy head gear this season. From the 70's wide brimmed hats, to borrowed-from-the boys fedoras, this season marked a comeback for the fabulous head toppers.
A little bit retro and a whole lot chic, hats are true attention getters that put the focus on your face and highlight your style. And not to forget that they can be the perfect remedy for a bad hair day. But because of their over the top character (both literally and figuratively), hats might not seamlessly gel with your style sensibilities. So, the only rule of wearing a hat is to be confident - wear it like you own it. Feminine or preppy, whatever be your style, the right hat can add a sense of drama to your look. Jump start your fall shopping with our selection of four of the sharpest toppers and some darling ways to style them.
A slouchy hat is an adorable way to finish off your weekend uniform.
Feathered fedora hat add a touch of whimsy to an otherwise preppy outfit.
Topping a lady like skirt with a floppy hat spells full on retro glamour.
A navy hat is a grey way to balances the bright citrus hue.
The epic color explosion of the spring runways continued well into the fall collections. This season the runways unfolded a distinct color story with focus on bright jewel tones. And of all the intense shades that walked the runway fiery red has to be our absolute favorite. Designers used the vibrant hue to dramatic effects, on tailored garments and glamorous accessories alike.
If you're a lady who loves to push the sartorial limits, go for an attention grabbing head to red ensemble with multiple scarlet hued pieces in a variety of textures. For the women who tend to shy away from color, just add a pop of red with one strong piece for a fierce yet classic look. Since red is just a powerful color that speaks volumes on its own, its best to keep the accessories minimal. When in doubt, use black as your go to neutral to finish up your look. Whether you wear red as an accent to brighten up your day wear or use it make a bold statement for the night out, one this is sure that red is inescapable this season. Don't hold back and dive right into the sea of sumptuous reds with our personal favorites:
Mango gown (Rs. 7490): Tap into your inner femme fatale in a wildly come-hither red gown from Mango. If you are looking to create your princess moment this party season, then this leg baring rouge number is a sure shot scene stealer. Wear it with a pair of your highest black heels and a tiny clutch with barely there make-up and clean pulled back hair and rest assured all eyes will be on you.
Zara top (Rs. 1690): The embroidered top in a vibrant red hue evokes a romantic vibe and puts a basic t-shirt in the fancy top category. Give your look a directional turn by wearing it over a simple A-line black skirt in and black pumps or use it break up your dark winter palette and wear it under your favorite winter jacket.
Maybelline Express Finish (Rs. 185 at Shoppers Stop): On the make up front, a red lipstick is the way to bring the color of passion to your look. But if a red lip is too daring for you then try Maybelline's nail paint in Red Seduction to give your outfit a sultry finish.
Aldo Shoes: There is no better way to amp up your outfit than with a smoldering shoe. High voltage red shoes are an easy way to tap into the fiery red trend. These bow pumps from Aldo remind us of last year's fashion favorite Isabel Marant pumps. Red suede gives a luxe finish to an eternally sexy shape that will look chic with both jeans and dresses.
If you are looking for some serious attention, then stepping out in these traffic-stopping red boots (Aldo 'Criblez') will do the trick for you. The pencil thin mirrored heel is just the cherry on top. We would love to style them with a short dress and some cozy outwear but they would look super hot with a pair of folded denims, worn out tee and a leather bomber.Zara dress (Rs. 2690): A bright red dress in a clean silhouette is just as flattering as an LBD and definitely more memorable. Stand out at your office party in this red dress from Zara that's all neat and sophisticated in the front with a hint of sizzle in the back. If you plan on wearing leggings, then a red hot shoe could be a show stopping alternative to the predictable black pump. Add finishing touches with a small box clutch and a sleek up do.
Promod Jeans: Bold red pants add an instant update to basic separates. Work some red into your every day attire with these deep red wax effect skinny jeans. We love the idea of styling these jeans with a chunky oversized sweater and little heels for a day look that's pulled together and chic. For a more dressier take on the jeans, team them up with a leopard print chiffon blouse and a pair of black pumps for a look that's a total knock out.
Mango Bag (Rs. 5990): This bag from Mango is an ultra lady like take on the messenger style. The slim chain embellishments, chain shoulder strap and a compact size make it one powerful red gem perfect for the evenings.
Promod skirt: Make an entrance this season in a smoking hot leather mini skirt in crimson red. Dress it down for the day with a simple cotton tee and some ankle boots, throw over a cozy knit if there is chill in the air. And dial up the sass factor at night by pairing it with a glam silk blouse and some strappy heels.
Guess Belt: If the red hot dressing is a bit too adventurous for you, then add a flash of red to almost any outfit with this bright suede belt from Guess. A hint of color would spice up even the most basic of your outfits without making you step out of your comfort zone, a win-win deal for sure.
French Connection Sweetie Clutch (Rs. 2999): Punctuate your outfits with a bold stamp of red with this wrist clutch from French Connection. The playful print on a sleek shape makes it a perfect partner to an evening ensemble. You can also take it out during the day to spice up your laid back casual outfit.
Zara sweater: This thick cable knit sweater (Zara Rs. 3690) in a deep burgundy hue redefines cozy. This oversized sweater will not only protect you from the elements but would look supremely chic while doing so. Wear it with a pair of black skinny pants and some rugged boots for a edgy modern feel but to elevate your style quotient we suggest partnering it with a unexpected metallic sequin skirt and some ankle boots.
Vero Moda Blazer: A red coat is like a wardrobe staple for almost all but buy yourself a red blazer this season to stir things up a bit. The brilliant red shade coupled with its sharp tailoring gives a new spin to the old classic. Wear it over a pretty print dress to add a bit of flirtiness to your look or throw it over a pair of black skinnies teamed with a denim shirt for a more trendy update.
