Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (AW '12) - Highlights

This week marked the beginning of the Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week. Overflowing with glitz, glamour and some serious creativity, it was one action packed event. With curtains down on day 3 of the autumn winter 2012 season, we bring you the first installment of our favorite collections:

DAY 1

Shantanu & Nikhil's drape collection was elegant and luxurious with a focus on sensual evening wear. It was full of form fitted dresses and evening gowns with a color palette ranging from metallics to jewel tones of blue, greens and red. The surprising element were the soft flowy dresses in pristine white. We are drooling over the white gown.

Preeti Chandra's Matador Chic collection caught our fancy with its sharp emebllished jackets and its gilded embroidery on velvet. Although, few of the cheery chiffon gowns in the middle felt a bit abrupt. But all in all, it was a great collection with its roots in the courts of Spain. The velvet peplum jacket might be our favorite piece amongst all.

Vineet Bahl took inspiration from his travels and aptly named it 'Caravan'. The use of Afgani & Sardinian embroidery on a variety of textures created perfect pieces for the Indian winter. We particularly loved the splashes of neon on his cute and definitely wearable separates.

Anju Modi: Inspired by the regions of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Kutch, Anju Modi's collection 'Nomadic Wanderlust' was a contemporary take on traditional silhouettes and earthy fabrics. Designed for the independent modern woman, she focussed on strong separates which can be mixed and matched with your existing wardrobe. The styling of the show with exaggerated cheek color and heeled oxfords were a perfect compliment to the wonderful ensembles.

Anupamaa Dayal's collection replete with its folk undercurrents took us to the streets of Gujarat. The use of bold colors combined with native prints was an absolute delight for the eyes. The striped sari and the bright ghagra's would make a perfect addition to our wardrobe. Just wish she had used the stringed jootis (absolutely loved them) throughout the show instead of those running shoes - a complete eye sore but besides that, the whole collection put as in a happy mood.
